How to Remove Limescale in Your Bathroom

Limescale is the white crusty film that develops around faucets, in bath tubs, and in toilets. Limescale is notorious for leaving ugly stains, and it can become extremely difficult to remove if you ignore it. This is the primary reason why you must take immediate action once you see limescale in your bathroom.

You can buy cleaning solutions from hardware and retail stores, but they contain chemicals that can be harmful to your health.

Learn how to remove limescale from your bathroom without industrial chemicals. Here are some tips that can help you get rid of limescale from your bathroom with ease:

Removing Limescale from Your Toilet

There are two options when it comes to getting rid of limescale stains from your toilet. You can clean your toilet with white distilled vinegar or pop. First, we will go through the steps of attacking limescale in your toilet with white distilled vinegar.

  1. Pour a bottle of white distilled vinegar into your toilet bowl. Make sure you get beneath the rim.
  2. Allow the vinegar to sit in your toilet bowl for several hours.
  3. Scrub your toilet bowl vigorously with a toilet brush for at least two minutes.
  4. Flush your toilet bowl three to four times.

Here the steps of cleaning your toilet bowl with pop:

  1. Pour three to four cans of pop into your toilet.
  2. For best results, allow the pop to sit in the toilet for at least six hours. This will give the acid in the pop enough time to get rid of the stains.
  3. Scrub the toilet with a toilet brush. The toilet brush should remove the stains.
  4. Flush your toilet several times. Several flushes should leave your toilet free of limescale stains.

How to Clean Your Shower Door

It’s imperative for you to tackle limescale on your shower door immediately. If you ignore the limescale on your shower screen door, it will get harder over time. It will become a pain in the neck when you decide to clean it off. Luckily, you can use white wine to keep your shower door free of limescale. Let’s go over the steps of using white wine to keep your shower door clean:

  1. Pour the wine in a plastic spray bottle.
  2. Generously spray the white wine on your shower door.
  3. Allow the wine to work its magic for one hour.
  4. Now it’s time for you to wipe your shower door with a dry cloth. Place the soft cloth at the top of your shower door and work your way to the bottom. Horizontal cleaning strokes provide the best results.

Removing Limescale from Faucet Taps

It’s common to find limescale build-up on faucet taps in the bathroom. You can remove it with a clean soft cloth and white distilled vinegar. You can also use lemon juice if you don’t have a bottle of white distilled vinegar around.

  1. Soak a clean cloth in the vinegar or lemon juice for at least ten minutes.
  2. Place the cloth around the faucet tap. You can use a rubber band to hold the cloth in place.
  3. Remove the cloth after an hour.
  4. Rinse the cloth thoroughly and repeat if you are not satisfied with the results from the first application.
  5. Do you have chrome taps? If so, buff them gently with another clean soft cloth.

It’s nerve-wracking for anyone to see limescale on their shower head. It’s an eyesore and it can restrict water flow. Restricted water flow will hinder your shower head from working at its full capacity.

Here are some simple steps that can remove limescale from your shower head:

  1. Carefully unscrew your shower head.
  2. Place the shower head in a bowl filled with white distilled vinegar.
  3. Allow it to sit overnight.
  4. Take your shower head out of the vinegar and put it back together. Your shower head will have a bright shine and more flow.

Removing Limescale from Your Bathtub

Do you have an old bathtub? If it’s more than 30-years-old, consider investing into a new one. However, you can try the steps listed below to improve its appearance. If your tub is less than 30-years-old, the steps listed below will work like a charm:

  1. Pour white distilled vinegar or lemon juice into a plastic spray bottle.
  2. Spray your tub generously with the vinegar or lemon juice.
  3. Allow the vinegar or lemon juice to break down the limescale. Give the vinegar or lemon juice at least 45 minutes to break down the stains. Stubborn stains will need more time. Two hours should be enough.
  4. Respray your tub every 20 minutes to keep the area wet.
  5.  Rinse the tub thoroughly with water
